The Mona Lisa aside…

…she is perhaps the most famous woman ever captured on canvas and she can now be seen here in the United States at New York City’s The Frick Collection.  On loan from The Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis in The Hague, the Netherlands is Joannes Vermeer’s spectacular and iconic Girl with the Pearl Earring.  The painting is part of a larger exhibit, Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Hals :  Masterpieces of Dutch Painting from the Mauritshuis, which is open now and continues through 19 January 2014.  Not since Da Vinci completed his own masterpiece has a woman returning our gaze held our attentions and fascinated us through the ages.
