Rarely has dread and contemplation been so fascinating…

The Phillips Collection in Washington, DC has a new permanent installation in German artist Wolfgang Laib’s Wax Room.  The artist melted close to 450 lbs of wax and labored with a small selection of tools, including at times nothing more than a common spatula, to carefully smooth the material into a uniform texture and color on the walls.

The final result is known as Where Have You Gone / Where are You Going?  The golden surface is illuminated by a single light bulb which hangs in the middle of the room.
