Located 2 blocks south of the Eastern Market metro station on 8th Street in Washington, DC, Lavagna prides itself on its dedication to Italian cuisine; its reliance on local farms; hand-made pastas and seasonal menus; and its in-house, smoked and cured meats. It’s also unbelievably affordable.
We recently had the pleasure of returning to the Italian restaurant on a rain-soaked Saturday, to surprise mom with out-of-town relatives who were visiting for the weekend. We shared the following :
― Charcuterie Board with blue, goat and gouda cheeses; crostini; house-cured meats; house-pickled vegetables; house preserves; and olives.
― Fusilli chicken with kale, parmesan cream, red peppers and shallots.
― Pappardelle lamb with lamb ragu and red peppers.
― Rigatoni pesto with basil, pine nuts, and house Italian sausage.
For dessert we shared a couple of strawberry panna cottas and coffee. My family raved about the meal and outstanding service from Lindsey for days. The compliments don’t come any better than that–especially from a family of Italian-Americans from New York City.
