“Food is not about impressing people. It’s about making them feel comfortable.” ― Ina Garten (The Barefoot Contessa)
…other than the obvious, of course. Recently, MeltKraft opened in Philadelphia along 17th Street and clearly the Comfort Food Gods were shining down upon us as the storefront was right across the street from our hotel. Serendipitous was the only description that came to mind when we visited on a chilly, damp and foggy day. If the weather soured our mood, the small restaurant―dedicated to artisanal, made to order grilled cheese sandwiches served on spectacular bread―managed to make us smile from ear to ear. We enjoyed their Somerset and Brielle signature sandwiches. The former is made with Gruyère, ham and whole grain mustard; the latter, with brie, cranberry chutney and toasted pine nuts. The bread was perfectly grilled; the cheeses were subtle; and the accompanying toppings were flawless. The Somerset is so good, I had a second one. For breakfast.
