The first of two parts. Vieux-Montréal, or Old Montreal, is the city’s oldest section, having been declared a historic district by the Ministère des Affaires Culturelle’s du Québec in the early 1960’s.

Founded by French settlers, the neighbourhood is deceptively large, bordered on the south by the Saint Lawrence river.
